What is this resource?
Neighborhood Legal Services Michigan (NLSM) works with those who could not afford legal services and those who are homeless and/or at risk of homelessness. They also provide financial assistance, housing relocation and stabilization services to those who are determined to be literally homeless or victims of violence with Rapid Rehousing funding from the City of Detroit or U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Their program components include: Short and medium term rental assistance; security deposits; utility deposits/payments; moving costs; case management; outreach; housing search/inspection; legal services; credit repair; and financial literacy.
They offer the below three services:
- Rapid Re-Housing: A short-term rental assistance and service to help people obtain housing quickly.
- Permanent Supportive Housing: A program that combines affordable housing assistance with voluntary support services to address the needs of chronically homeless individuals and families. This program is for individuals with disabilities.
- Transitional Housing: Provides housing and appropriate supportive services to homeless persons to facilitate movement to independent living.
